Welcome to J Bar F Performance Horses!  We are a small breeding operation located outside of Townsend, Montana, and feature both Paint and Quarter Horse mares.  We’ve always been around horses and this lifelong love of horses is what has provided the basis for this program.

Starting out using horses for ranch and recreational riding, Jan’s venture into 4-H growing up led to expanding our horizons.  The more we were around the performance horse world, the more we realized there was to explore.  Jan’s participation in 4-H, Quarter Horse shows, open shows, and some barrel racing events through the 80’s has refined into a program focusing on reined cowhorse and reining prospects.  Watching snaffle bit futurities and cowhorse and reining shows in the 80’s sparked an interest of those events that burns just as brightly today.

We enjoy memberships in many associations including the American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, National Reined Cowhorse Association, Montana Reined Cowhorse Association, and the Rocky Mountain Breeders Association.  We’ve made many friends throughout the horse world and feel blessed to have made such lasting friendships.  It is not just about the quality of horses and the enjoyment of the show world, it is about the people you meet.

Our horses have the bloodlines of Dual Pep, King Fritz, Dry Doc, Shining Spark, Smart Little Lena, Hollywood Dun It, Peppy San Badger, Otoe, Docs Remedy, Sugar Bars, and Mr. Gunsmoke among others.  The majority of our horses are sired by stallions that are World Champions, leading Equistat sires, or event performers themselves.  While you will see quite a bit of color in our pastures with buckskins, palominos, bays, and chestnuts, our program does not focus on producing color.  Our philosophy is that color is never a substitute for quality, it is merely icing on the cake.

Despite being a smaller program with a smaller number of horses performing in the show pen, we’re proud of our horses’ accomplishments.  Although many of our horses have been shown, the first horse we promoted with a trainer was Oncebitten Twice Dry in the hackamore classes of the Montana Reined Cowhorse circuit.  We then moved forward into the snaffle bit futurities and derbies with Sparks Honey Dunnit.  The 2007 show season saw our stallion, Tangy Doodle Dually, follow the same cowhorse circuit with a strong finish as the Montana Reined Cowhorse Futurity Stallion Stakes $5K Ltd Reserve Champion.  This nice young stallion remained in training for the 2008 show circuit until his death on October 6, 2008.  We still have many nice horses slated for training and showing and continue to breed for the best quality.

Because we believe in the quality of the horses our program is producing, we are not only making the investment to promote horses with a trainer, but we also show our own horses as our schedule permits.  Other riders are also showing and winning on J Bar F horses, including the 2007 MRCHF Open Two-Rein Champion Sugars Mr. Sparkle.

To date we’ve sold horses to buyers as far away as New York and had visitors from as far away as Egypt.  We recognize the hard work and dedication it takes to do well in any equine discipline and applaud horse owners across the world for their achievements.  No matter what your interest or your favorite breed, what brings us together is the love of a good horse.  We welcome visitors from near and far.

We’ve dared to dream and we’d like to help you recognize your dreams!
